    Palm Sunday

    Holy Week begins with Jesus entering triumphantly into Jerusalem. He comes in riding on a donkey – an animal that symbolizes peace. In doing so, He enters as the Messiah bringing peace and fulfills Zechariah's prophetic words from ages before.

    The crowd recognized something special in Jesus as they waved palm branches and laid them on the dirt pathway for their Savior. They shout with joy and enthusiasm: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” - Mark 11:10

    This is a cry of praise and petition: “Save us, save us!” Little did they know that they would later be shouting “Crucify him, crucify him!”. That crowd is all of us – a people broken in sin who forget all too easily His merciful works and teachings.

    Holy Thursday

    “Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that His hour had come… He rose from supper and took off His outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around His waist. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around His waist.” - John 13:1-5

    Can you see the disciples' faces as Jesus gets up from His seat and silently prepares to wash their feet? His actions speak volume. Despite the betrayals He would receive from Judas and Peter, He washed their feet. This is unconditional love. The Master, the King of Kings, the Messiah is giving us a model to follow.

    As followers of Christ, we are called to love and serve one another. Christ in this moment gave us that perfect example to emulate. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35

    Let us reflect now. Was there a moment in my life where I could have loved better? Did I serve lovingly without holding a grudge? Have I rejected the face of Jesus in another? How can I love and serve someone today?

    Holy Thursday

    We now enter into the single celebration of the Paschal Triduum. (The Lord's Supper, Good Friday of the Lord's Passion and the Resurrection) Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery. The Triduum is known as the summit of the Liturgical Year.

    The Last Supper of Jesus Christ marks the institution of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion).

    And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” - Luke 22:15

    Christ breaks bread and gives it to His disciples, uttering the words, "This is My body, which is given for you." Subsequently, He passes a cup filled with wine and says, "This is My blood, which is poured out for you."

    The Eucharist is the eternal life Christ has offered to us through the Church.

    “Through the food of the Eucharist,” writes St. John Paul II, “Christ’s eternal life penetrates and flows within human life.”

    Let us reflect on the power of the Eucharist during the Last Supper. Do you believe in Christ’s words and His promise of eternal life? Spend some time reflecting on John 6 and pray for a deeper love of the Holy Eucharist.

    Good Friday

    From the time God spoke the heavens and the earth into existence, when He formed us and breathed life into us, He saw that it was good. Even when He knew that He would one day give His life for us, He still saw that it was good.

    That is the heart of our Master, where His unconditional love and mercy overflow. It is the same heart with which Jesus willingly gave Himself to be beaten and pierced on our behalf. He was rendered weak, humiliated as they stripped His clothes, and His body broken beyond recognition on the cross.

    From our earthly perspective, it seemed as though the battle had been lost. Had the Father’s love grown cold? Little did we know His love was in fact ablaze and on full display that Good Friday. And the war against sin and death was decisively won when Jesus uttered, “It is finished.”

    Today, He is still offering us that love and the eternal life that was secured through His sacrifice. When we accept His invitation, repent, and follow Him, Scripture tells us that all of heaven rejoices. We would imagine our Creator saying once again, “It is good.” Perhaps that is why it is fitting we call this day Good Friday.

    May we take the opportunity this Easter Triduum to rededicate ourselves in service to our Lord.

    Easter Sunday

    And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone... The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said."

    The potential for multiplying God’s reach through GKCE’s work is endless, and we are excited about the possibilities!

    Our goal is to enlighten the hearts and minds of as many people as we are able to reach around the world with GKCE’s Momenta Sacra series. We are in ongoing discussions with Christian broadcasting platforms in the hope that we can televise Momenta Sacra episodes, similar to how we aired The Last Days and our Lenten Reflections on EWTN. Ultimately, we plan to make the series available for private programs at parishes and Christian organizations.
